High-Societies is an interactive web site of local and community information developed and managed by Highland Libraries, The Highland Council's library service.
It is a free resource for everyone. It is free to be listed and free to use.
High-Societies can be accessed for free in every library in the Highland Council and anywhere else with Internet Access.
High-Societies holds information about non profit making groups, clubs, societies and organisations which are available in local communities, towns and villages in The Highland Council area. You might find information for example about your nearest:
Entries can include the name of an organisation, contact details (name, address, telephone and fax numbers, email and website addresses), general information about what the organisation does and the geographical area covered.
Where a postcode has been supplied by an organisation, it links to Google maps.

On reciept of your log-in details you or your organisation take ownership of the entry: no-one else apart from the Site administrator will be able to make changes. You will be able to update any or all of the information as often as you wish. Confidential details will not be shared with any other organisation outwith The Highland Council.
Groups and organisations have ownership of their entries and are responsible for updating their records regularly. Groups will be prompted once a year to check and update their entry. Any entries which are not updated will be removed thereafter. Each entry indicates when the details were last updated. No entry should be older than 18 months.
To help cut down on the spam you receive email addresses will never be shown publicly unless you have chosen otherwise.
Our events page includes an RSS feed, and we intend to add others on the site in the future. RSS (which stands for Really Simple Syndication) is simply a list of news items or events created in XML format. What you do with this information is up to you. Some people have 'newsreader' programmes which regularly check all the newsfeeds they are subscribed to, downloading new stories. Alternatively, you might have a Google home page - this also allows you to subscribe to a feed so that the latest information will show on it.
It's also possible to incorporate an RSS feed directly into your own website - we're happy for you to do this.
